CRATE.

For record collectors · iPhone and web

Know what you own before you buy it twice

Scan a sleeve and Crate files the record in your collection with its Discogs value. In a shop, it answers one question fast: do I have this already?

iPhone app coming soon. It's in TestFlight beta now.

The two moments

The scan and the check

Everything in Crate serves two moments: adding a record when you get it home, and checking the rack before you pay for one you already own.

01 · At home

Scan it in

Photograph the sleeve or scan the barcode. Crate recognises the record, then fills in the label, catalogue number, tracklist and what it's worth on Discogs.

  • AI sleeve recognition for covers with no text on them
  • Barcode scanning for anything from the last few decades
  • Pressing, format and the Discogs value added for you

02 · In the shop

Do I own this?

Point your phone at a sleeve in the rack. If it's already on your shelf, you'll know before you reach the till.

Already in your crate
  • Works offline, so a basement shop with no signal is fine
  • Duplicate warnings tell you when and on what format you added it
  • Shows what your copy is worth, so you know if an upgrade is worth it

Value and pressings

What it's worth, and which one you have

A 1964 first press and a 2014 reissue share a title and not much else. Crate prices the pressing you actually own.

Discogs value

Low and typical prices from the Discogs marketplace, with how many copies are for sale and how many people want one.

Pressings

The most-owned pressings side by side: label, catalogue number, format and the matrix codes etched in the run-out.

Runout ID

Photograph the dead wax and Crate reads the matrix etching, then points to the pressing it matches.

Wantlist and gig alerts

Hear about it first

Keep a list of the records you're hunting. Crate keeps an eye on prices and tour dates so you don't have to.

Target prices

Set the most you'll pay. Crate checks Discogs once a day and emails you when a copy is listed at or under it.

Gig alerts

Bands from your collection touring the UK, near your postcode, from Ticketmaster listings. An email when new dates appear.

Needle drop

A daily 30-second preview from something on your shelf, for the records you haven't played in a while.

Wantlist

Collector tools

Built for people who file by label

Spin log

Every play, logged

Log a spin and whether you cleaned it first. Crate counts stylus hours and tells you when the needle is due.

Custom crates

Your own sections

Group records however you like: Late Night, Blue Note Tone Poets, Bargain Bin Gems.

Runout ID

Read the dead wax

A photo of the matrix etching tells you which pressing is in the sleeve.

Insurance PDF

A valuation on paper

Export the collection with conditions, prices paid and current values, ready for your insurer.

Discogs import

Bring your shelf

Already catalogued on Discogs? Import the collection instead of scanning it all again.

Intel

Paid vs worth

What you paid against what it's worth now, your most valuable records, and the collection by format, decade and genre.

Public crate

Share the shelf

An optional read-only page of your covers, titles and years. Never prices, values or notes.

Face ID and PIN

Locked when you want

Keep the app behind Face ID or a four-digit PIN, so the value of your shelf stays yours.

Phone and web

One collection

The iPhone app and the web app share one collection, so you can catalogue at a desk and check in the shop.

Private and offline

Your shelf is nobody's business

A collection says a lot about a person, and what it's worth says more. Crate keeps both to you.

  • The shop check works offline. Your collection is kept on the phone, so checking a sleeve needs no signal.
  • Nothing is public unless you say so. The public crate page is off until you switch it on, and never shows prices or values.
  • Delete means delete. Closing your account removes the collection and every photo, on the web and in the app.
  • Looking things up. Adding a record asks Discogs for its prices, and the sleeve photo may be sent for AI recognition to work out what it is.
